Fields of Mistria Romance Guide: Dating, Marriage & Children

Raise a romanceable villager's hearts, enter the dating route, reach 10 hearts, craft the Engagement Ring, propose, plan the wedding, and marry. Children are optional after marriage, and 1.0 adds settings for handling multiple dating relationships.

Raise hearts and start dating

The route begins with ordinary relationship work: talk to the character, give useful gifts, and raise the heart level of a romanceable villager. The relationship cap is 10 hearts.

Once the dating route is available, continue the relationship through the endgame threshold. Daily conversation and practical gifts work together; a gift alone is not the entire relationship routine.

Craft the Engagement Ring

After reaching 10 hearts with a dating NPC, Elsie delivers the Engagement Ring recipe the next morning. Craft the ring at a Forge, then use it to begin the proposal and wedding route.

This is why a relationship can feel ready while the marriage step is not. Romance progression and exploration progression support each other, especially for a save that has not reached the deep Ruins content.

Proposal, wedding, and marriage

After the ring is ready, propose, plan the wedding, marry, and continue into married-life content. Version 1.0 adds proposal events, wedding events, marriage, and children, turning the old Early Access relationship ceiling into a complete route.

There are twelve marriage candidates, and marriage candidates are not gender locked. If you are still deciding who to date, start with the hearts and dating steps before reading the proposal and wedding details.

Dating multiple characters

The 1.0 patch adds relationship settings for players who date multiple NPCs. By default, getting engaged can move other dating relationships toward a best-friend state, while the game includes options affecting that transition and breakup content.

If you are dating more than one character, review those settings before committing to an engagement. Existing saves retain relationship progress in 1.0, so returning players do not need to restart just to use the full romance system.
