Fields of Mistria Caldarus: Unlock & Romance Guide

Caldarus is not a normal day-one romance route. Progress the Mines to the Fire Seal around Floor 60, complete the related tablet and quest chain, and continue the story that brings him into human form before treating his route like a conventional villager relationship.

Why Caldarus is a special route

Caldarus's route is tied to the Mines story. The update that made his romance accessible also introduced the Fire Seal questline, Lava Caves progression, Deep Woods access, and the Dragon's Breath spell. These systems are connected rather than separate unlocks.

That is why a player can be ready to build relationships in town and still be unable to interact with Caldarus like a normal villager. The story has to move far enough for his human-form progression to become available.

Progress the Fire Seal story

The route begins by progressing the Mines to the Fire Seal around Floor 60 and starting the related tablet and quest chain. Completing the Fire Seal sequence leads to Caldarus appearing in human form and opens the ability to interact with him more conventionally.

Deep Woods access becomes part of his later routine. Progress the story in order instead of searching the town for a route that has not been unlocked yet.

Caldarus gifts and birthday

Caldarus is romanceable and has a Spring 25 birthday. His loved gifts include several advanced cooked dishes and the Statuette of Caldarus.

Because the strongest items are advanced, separate the birthday and loved-gift answer from the unlock answer. A player who has not reached the Fire Seal will get more value from progression guidance than from a late-game gift list.

What changes after the unlock

Once the story has moved Caldarus into human form, his relationship can be treated more like the other romanceable routes. He is one of the twelve marriage candidates.

The 10-heart route and marriage content belong after the unlock explanation, since the Fire Seal story comes first.
